Introduction

“OSA took the time to listen to our needs and comprehend what was required. This was a huge benefactor as the solutions they provided were the precise services that we requested,”

Matthew Baxter NSW Operations Manager

FIBIC, a market leader in providing high quality equipment installation, splicing and specialised fibre optic relocations, requires reliable test and measurement equipment and splicers to achieve success across all projects. With these materials, FIBIC forms an essential role to deliver projects for its clients in the Australian telecommunications sector.

And with their long-standing relationship with the OSA Silverwater team and Matt Doxey, FIBIC’s Director Sam Socorro and NSW Operations Manager Matthew Baxter knew they could rely on OSA’s expertise and dedicated customer service.

A long-standing relationship

“We utilised OSA’s services in minor capacities until 2017. In early 2017, we had gained additional work opportunities with a new client that required materials to be supplied as specified in the contract.

The materials had to meet carrier specifications and this opened a new opportunity for FIBIC and OSA’s partnership to flourish. As the partnership grew, so did the relationship with the OSA team and they quickly became our preferred supplier,” said Matthew.

“Since the beginning of our partnership, we have always relied on OSA whenever we need to search for specific materials. Their dedicated service stands out in the telecommunication industry and they’ve proven their quality performance time and again.”

Since the early days of FIBIC’s relationship with OSA in 2006, Matthew has relied on OSA’s services throughout the years. And he couldn’t be happier with OSA’s attention to detail and trusting relationship with the OSA Silverwater team.

Finding solutions no matter the problem

“One of the main issues that we’ve experienced in the past was chasing up items that were old materials used in carrier networks that are required for maintenance. OSA have always been able to locate these items with limited information, such as relying only on part numbers, brief descriptions and a photo of what was required.

No matter how difficult the task was, they have always come through with the materials that we needed to find.”

And it’s OSA’s commitment to servicing the customer that really stood out to Matthew.

With our proven service and dedication to meeting the client’s needs, we’ve been able to successfully supply FIBIC with a range of products and materials, including:

  • Carrier grade termination enclosures for external and internal applications

Providing next generation test and measurement equipment

“OSA has exceptional knowledge on the services they offer. They have always been willing to go that extra mile and that has always been an awesome thing to work with. We always appreciate having face to face service instead of being referred to an online catalogue, and the OSA team have always offered that personal factor.

Matt Doxey has been the accounts manager since the start of 2017, which makes our relationship that much stronger and much easier for us to trust OSA’s service and products,”

EXFO are the leading experts in testing, monitoring and analytics for the communications industry. And with OSA’s partnership with EXFO, this enables us to provide turnkey network solutions across a wide range of market verticals.

Our supply of EXFO’s cutting edge technology for testing fibre optics is exactly what Matthew and the team at FIBIC needed, and they couldn’t be happier with OSA’s efficient delivery and expert knowledge on the products at hand.

OSA supplied Matthew and his team the EXFO FTB-1v2 and the FTB-1 Pro models, a lightweight compact test platform that allows field technicians to carry out dedicated optical, Ethernet and multiservice test applications simply and efficiently, thanks to its ultra-powerful processing and highly intuitive interface.

These units save time on site, providing FIBIC with a full version of Windows built into the EXFO FTB-1v2 and the FTB-1 Pro models. As one of FIBIC’s main requirements outside of meeting the technical specifications required for fibre testing, Matthew was extremely pleased with the results of the products.

Choosing EXFO and its world-class FTB ecosystem – the FTB line of portable test platforms – means FIBIC are partnering with the world leader in portable fibre-optic test equipment.

With over 25 years of proven expertise and innovation in optical testing as well as a true understanding of optical testing methods and procedures, EXFO is the ideal test and measurement vendor to partner with.

They deliver unsurpassed operational efficiency, and enhanced deployment methods and processes to reduce costs.

Improving splicing performance with Sumitomo

OSA also supplied FIBIC with kits of Sumitomo’s Fibre Fusion Splicer Type 72C, which helps improve splicing performance and reliability and features a newly designed user interface.

The TYPE-72C includes a smartphone-like high-resolution touch screen for user friendliness. In Quick Mode, the TYPE-72C reduces splicing and heat shrink time to 5 seconds and 9 seconds respectively. Its rugged frame enhances durability and improves shock resistance compared to early models.

Thanks to OSA’s consistent and reliable supply of EXFO and Sumitomo products, Matthew and his team are planning on upgrading their fleet to EXFO FTBs and Sumitomo fusion splicers.

OSA works closely with Sumitomo to ensure we deliver the very best optical fibre fusion splicers and fibre optic solutions to our customers across a range of market verticals.

Their entire industry-leading range of splicers offers quick termination and new standards in heater shrink time. As an industry leader in optical fibre and connectivity solutions, FIBIC can expect reliability, flexibility and unbelievable performance.

Looking to the future

“Partnering with OSA has saved us a lot of time. It’s such a huge advantage to have someone we can rely on for technical support and their attention to detail is excellent.

I’m confident that we will continue to receive ongoing support from Matt and his team in the future, and that will help give us the edge over our competitors in the fibre termination area.”

Matthew Baxter NSW Operations Manager

The long-term OSA and FIBIC partnership has many advantages for Matthew and his team, both in support of the equipment investment and in the continuation of EXFO’s optical test and measurement equipment and Sumitomo’s splicers.

At OSA, our aim is to always deliver our partners and clients world-class service – and working as FIBIC’s key supplier for test and measurement equipment and splicers put us at an advantage to highlight why OSA is Australia’s number one independently owned designer and distributor of world class network solutions.
